1 FEES FOR RAILWAY LICENCES
Railways are categorised in this document by size or complexity, solely for the definition of determining application to Transport General Authority levied fees. These categories have no other meanings or context.
Train Operators are categorised as A to E, and Infrastructure Managers are categorised as F to J.
The sliding scale of charges reflects the complexity of the application, and the time taken for the TGA to review the applications, carry out site visits and inspections etc.

<table><tr><td>Chargeable item</td><td>Initial fee (non-refundable)</td><td>Annual fee</td></tr><tr><td>Operating Licence</td><td>Yes, as per category A to J, see Table 2</td><td>No</td></tr></table>
Table 1: List of chargeable items
1.2 Categorisation of railways for operating licences
In tables 2a and 2b the railway is categorised in the highest band that is triggered. For example, if the results are D, D, C, C, C, E, B, A, then category E will apply.
1.2.1 Train Operators
<table><tr><td></td><td>A</td><td>B</td><td>C</td><td>D</td><td>E</td></tr><tr><td>Route length (max route km)</td><td>25</td><td>100</td><td>250</td><td>500</td><td>&gt;500</td></tr><tr><td>Maximum operating speed (km/h)</td><td>80</td><td>100</td><td>160</td><td>200</td><td>&gt;200</td></tr><tr><td>Minimum operating headway (minutes)</td><td>&gt;30</td><td>10-30</td><td>5-9</td><td>3-5</td><td>&lt; 3</td></tr><tr><td>Homogenous fleet?</td><td colspan="5">Yes = A, No = C</td></tr><tr><td>Linked to national network\( ^{1} \)?</td><td colspan="5">No = A, Yes = C</td></tr><tr><td>Crosses international boundary?</td><td colspan="5">No = A, Yes = E</td></tr><tr><td>Sub-surface passenger stations?</td><td colspan="5">No = A, Yes = B</td></tr><tr><td>Freight dangerous goods</td><td colspan="5">No = A, Yes = C</td></tr></table>
Table 2a: Categories for train operators

Table 3b: Fees for infrastructure managers
