Saudi Ports Authority
About Mawani
The Saudi Ports Authority was incorporated in 1396 AH correspond to 1976 AD, to establish a specialized work system that constructs and manages Saudi ports with high efficiency, as Saudi ports, with their diversity of specializations, have an exceptional role in developing regional and international maritime trade and passenger transport, especially the visitors of holy places for Hajj and Umrah.
The year 1417 AH correspond to 1996 AD, represented a turning point in the history of Saudi ports, in which the vision of our rational government and its endless support for national development projects is evident. It was decided to privatize the port sector as the first sector to be privatized for its services in the Kingdom. This trend was accompanied by an exceptional role of the private sector; Huge sums have been invested to develop, modernize, manage and operate Saudi ports according to modern methods. This historic step has contributed in making Saudi ports independent economic entities that support the national economy effectively and integrating, and move steadily towards bigger goals and comprehensive development. Where exports now represent (70%) of the total movement of goods in the ports, while it was less than (10%) several years ago.
The Saudi ports authority, which is supervised by the General Ports Authority, consists of nine ports, six of them are commercial and three are industrial, they are qualified with the best methods, systems and latest technologies necessary to receive all means of maritime transport, regardless of their stages of development, and to meet all challenges and variables with high efficiency. The Kingdom's ports have been distinguished at the international level by simulating development and growth in all economic sectors, which is crystallized in receiving the largest share of exports and imports around the world.
